According to the most general calculations, the contribution of the agricultural sector to the formation of greenhouse gases, which is the cause of climate change, is 13%. On the other hand, agriculture also contributes positively to climate change, especially as plant activities convert carbon gas into organic matter. The agricultural sector uses 75% of the world’s water, 40% of the human workforce, 30% of the land and 5% of the energy. Every year, 120 million tons of oil, 200 million tons of chemical fertilizers, 4 million tons of pesticides and 160 thousand tons of antibiotics are used to plow the 1.5 billion hectares of land used for agriculture. Agriculture, which uses natural resources on this scale and pollutes them in some way, is certainly one of the causes of climate change or increases its effect. Climate change may reduce annual global production in agriculture by around 0.5-1%. Approximately 50 years from now, many countries will be able to produce around 15-50% less than the total amount of agricultural products they produce today. For Türkiye, this estimate is expected to be a decrease of at least 15% in production.
